Advanced Media Institute Scientific Committee Member
Dr Nael Jebril is Associate Professor in the Media and Cultural Studies Program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and Senior Lecturer in Journalism at Bournemouth University (UK), where he previously served as Head of the MA Media and Communication Program. Before that, he worked at Oxford University, where he taught media, public opinion and politics at the MPhil in Politics, convened the Oxford Media Research Seminars, and served as examiner at the University’s Foreign Service Programme (FSP). Dr Jebril is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and a co-recipient of the 2016 Goldsmith Book Prize by Harvard University and the 2018 International Journal of Press /Politics Best Book Award for ‘Political Journalism in Comparative Perspective’ (Cambridge University Press, 2014). He is a scientific board member at the Advanced Media Institute, Cyprus, and, previously, he was an associate member of Green Templeton College, Oxford (2012 – 2015), and had held visiting academic roles at the Centres for Journalism and Contemporary Middle East Studies, University of Southern Denmark, and the Amsterdam School of Communication Research, University of Amsterdam. Dr Jebril has led a number of research projects, academic publications and conferences on media and democracy, and his research received institutional support from Oxford University’s Politics Department, the Danish Social Science Research Council, the BBC and the Broadcasting Board of Governance (BBG).
